Intimate relationships can be defined as a relationship where the couple is physically and emotionally involved. You can be married, sexual partners, in a polyamorous relationship, etc. The one thing in common for all these relationships is our need for intimacy. Intimacy can take on many forms. We will be discussing physical and emotional intimacy. It’s that need to feel connected to another person. However, the likelihood of divorce in the United States is 42-45 %. So are we lacking that connection we yearn for and how can we get it back?

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias present one of the most pressing public health emergencies today. This workshop explores the social and medical factors shaping the lives of people living with these conditions, as well as how to address the sexuality-related challenges arising from them. Ethics concerning consent will be explored fully.
Learning objectives
- Describe the science of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions that can cause dementia.
- Explain how dementia can manifest itself in a spectrum of inappropriate sexual behaviors.
- Identify and analyze sources of personal and societal bias in regards to dementia generally, and sexuality and dementia, specifically.
- Describe how sexual ableism can manifest itself in the context of dementias.
- Describe the ethical issues involving people with dementia giving consent to sexual activities.

Lourdes Rios is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Sex Therapist. She has worked in the medical field for over twenty-five years in different capacities that range from bedside nursing, leadership, and Case management. During her time as a counselor, she has worked in the field of Cognitive and Emotional Wellness with Trauma, Anxiety, Addictions, Relationship Issues, Women's Issues, Men's Issues, Parenting Problems and Difficulties, Divorce, and Sexuality. Currently, she is a Doctoral Candidate in Sexology at IICS.
Isabel Perez is a licensed school psychologist with a diplomate in school neuropsychology, licensed mental health counselor, master addiction professional and heart-centered hypnotherapist currently completing her PhD in Sex Therapy with a specialization in addiction. She has been serving Miami-Dade County since 1996 with a focus on concussion, traumatic brain injury, and neurological disorders.
Dr. Cheryl Cohen-Green is a Certified Clinical Sexologist, with a doctorate in Human Sexuality, a 20 year member of the San Francisco Sex Information Training Staff, and has been a surrogate partner for over 49 years. In her work as a Surrogate Partner Therapist, she helps assist individuals and couples who desire to enhance their concept of their own sexuality as their bodies age and change.

Part 1 - This course will review the Codes of Ethics of several organizations, including ATSA and AASECT. It will cover the basics of Ethical Decision Making and ethical questions related to specific areas, such as conversion therapy. Students will learn how therapists and psychologists come to violate the laws regarding sexual relationships with patients and be able to clearly differentiate between the therapist-patient relationship and the forensic arena and understand the boundaries of each. The course will also focus on forensic assessment and testifying in court.

Dr. An and Matt Friedman will cover the Cruise Ship Industry, Ports, Fishing Industry, Victimization, Labor and Sex trafficking in the Supply Chain and the Geneva Convention’s Four Fundamentals on June 15.

Dr. An Goldbauer provides consultation to programs’ working with commercially sexually exploited trafficked individuals and assists in developing training manuals to meet compliance within the scope of programs’ limitations, ensuring programs use inclusive language to address the LGBTQIA+ population and implement evidence-based measurements. Dr. Goldbauer also provides mentoring to youth when needed, mentoring to medical students presenting grand rounds in trans care, works with professionals within the commercially sexually exploited population, teaches a home study course at IICS, and a course at ITCA where he also serves on the Advisory Board. He provides direction, consultation, and collaborate on a committee working with medical/mental health and other professionals aiming to provide services to the LGBTQIA+ community.
He continues to advance further training beyond the doctoral degree by taking courses, attending symposiums, in services, webinars as these pertain to human trafficking and the LGBTQIA+ populations. These trainings range from seeking certifications to facilitate groups for At-Risk-Girls, offer effective case management in working with commercially sexually exploited individuals. I also attend conferences that address legal and investigative materials to enhance his knowledge about the different typologies of sex offenders for didactic purposes.

This course will help clinicians to work with clients to help them better manage their stress, conflict, and relationships due to experiencing separation and divorce. With approximately 50% of the population in the US experiencing divorce, many clinicians find that they are struggling to manage client’s presentation surrounding the myriad of issues when they emerge in the clinical process. This course will provide practical skills such as co-parent counseling, reunification counseling, and parenting support, to address the many facets that this transition presents with, when working with clients of all ages.

Dr. Alyse November is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Social Work from Adelphi University, N.Y., and her Ph.D. at the International Institute of Clinical Sexology, and is credentialed by the Academy of Certified Social Workers and presented with Social Worker of the year by NASW . Dr. November is the founder of Different Like Me, a company with a staff of over 15 professionals providing psychotherapy, psychoeducational testing, cognitive rehabilitation. As a licensed clinical social worker, Dr. November has been providing psychotherapy to individuals across the life spectrum for more than 30 years.
Dr. November is a published author and a national speaker and presenter. She is the Palm Beach Chapter Past President/Chair for the National Association of Social Workers.
Stephanie Newberg, LCSW, M.Ed is a licensed psychotherapist in FL and PA, working with individuals, couples and families. She has been in practice for more than 25 years specializing in: family and couples therapy, conflict resolution, grief and loss, parenting support and the implications of divorce on children and families. In addition, Stephanie is a trained family and divorce mediator/ co-parent counselor and has received intensive training in sand tray play therapy for adolescents and children. Stephanie has led numerous workshops and presentations for adults and adolescents on relationship and communication skills, dealing with the effects of divorce on families, diversity issues, cyberbullying/effects of technology on development, nutrition and mental health, and conflict resolution skills. In addition, Stephanie has numerous publications and has been on two podcasts. Stephanie is a certified counselor for first responders, trained in neuro- emotional techniques, served as a consultant for the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia, PA and works at the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social work as an adjunct professor, supervisor, and field work liaison for social work students.

Chemsex, the use of methamphetamine, GHB/GBL and other drugs in combination with sexual behaviors, is a significant global problem, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). It is one of the most significant factors affecting new HIV infections and poor antiretroviral medication adherence. Chemsex instills confidence and a sense of interpersonal connection, along with heightened sexual desire. It also is an effective way of numbing uncomfortable emotions such as shame, internalized homophobia or loneliness. The combined intensity of stimulants, sex, and porn hijack the brain’s reward circuitry, effectively resetting the baseline level needed for both sexual arousal and performance. When used to enhance sexual behavior, these drugs create a lasting fusion between the intoxicated state and sexual behaviors. Once fused, tolerance quickly develops resulting in escalating drug use, the need for more intense sexual encounters, and sexual dysfunction. If such fusion has occurred, abstinence from the drugs often results in a loss of sexual desire. This presentation illuminates the biological, cultural, and psychological impact of chemsex and provides interventions and approaches that help clinicians support the client in reclaiming healthy, drug-free sex and intimacy.

Luigi Ferrer is an experienced bisexual activist, a nationally recognized HIV/AIDS activist, a healthcare & non-profit consultant and concerned environmentalist. Luigi is a certified HIV Test Counselor and sex educator. He served as Executive Director of the Body Positive Resource Center (Miami’s 2nd AIDS Service Organization), the Bisexual Foundation and Pridelines (Miami’s LGBTQ Community Center). Luigi is an HIV Long-Term Survivor (HLTS), living with HIV since 1980. He currently serves as Health Education Supervisor and Sexual Minority Health Coordinator for the Florida Department of Health Miami-Dade, coordinate the Miami Collaborative (Miami’s MSM HIV Prevention workgroup) and provides technical assistance to organizations which provide HIV Prevention services for men who have sex with men.

This 5-hour presentation will explore the history of addiction, from drugs and alcohol to gambling to sex to all things internet-related. It will conceptualize addiction as an overall process, rather than people being addicted “to” something. The relationship between addiction and early internal incorporation of negative messages will be explained. The phenomenon of resistance to the concepts of “sex addiction” and “codependence” will be explored contextually. Finally, recovery will be defined as not just recovery from addiction, but as recovery of Connection. Recovery strategies and tools will be provided.

Dr. Carol Clark is board certified in sex therapy, transgender care, and addictions and is the president, founder, and senior instructor for the International Institute of Clinical Sexology and the Therapist Certification Association. The aging process often contributes to individuals acquiring disabilities over time that impact their sexual lives. In this workshop, we discuss the relationship between aging and disabilities, as well as an overview of adaptive strategies and tools to help older adults engage in satisfying sexual expression.

- Explain the difference between the medical and social model of disability with a focus on how each model relates to common issues in providing disability-informed sexuality education counseling and therapy.

Lourdes Rios is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Board Certified Sex Therapist. Isabel Perez is a licensed school psychologist with a diplomate in school neuropsychology, licensed mental health counselor, master addiction professional and heart-centered hypnotherapist currently completing her PhD in Sex Therapy with a specialization in addiction. She has been serving Miami-Dade County since 1996 with a focus on concussion, traumatic brain injury, and neurological disorders.
Dr. Cheryl Cohen-Green is a Certified Clinical Sexologist, with a doctorate in Human Sexuality, a 20 year member of the San Francisco Sex Information Training Staff, and has been a surrogate partner for over 49 years. Sex is keyed into our limbic systems, which controls our survival, our emotions, our reward system, and our memories. Our limbic system is vulnerable to the effects of substance use/abuse, since mind-altering substances such as cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogens first affect the reward system and then stores the pleasurable effects in memory, which leads to cravings and addiction. The intersection of sexuality and substance use occurs when we use drugs while having sex, which exponentially intensifies the pleasure of both; when we use drugs to a point where our ability to engage in sexual behavior is impaired; or when we use drugs to escape memories of traumatic sexual experiences. This workshop will explore and explain the many points of this intersection and describe interventions for developing healthy sexual feelings and behavior in recovery from addiction.

Calista is a full time pelvic floor physiotherapist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. While in physiotherapy school she obtained her Post-Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health and her Internal Pelvic Health Certification. Since graduating she has taken educational courses in sexual pain, pelvic health and pediatrics. She is acupuncture certified and has training in the practice of visceral manipulation.
Calista over the last year increased her education and knowledge base in the area of transgender health and how this relates to pelvic health and physiotherapy. Part 2 - This course will review the Codes of Ethics of several organizations, including ATSA and AASECT. It will cover the basics of Ethical Decision Making and ethical questions related to specific areas, such as conversion therapy. Students will learn how therapists and psychologists come to violate the laws regarding sexual relationships with patients and be able to clearly differentiate between the therapist-patient relationship and the forensic arena and understand the boundaries of each. The course will also focus on forensic assessment and testifying in court.

Dr. Clark opened the Addiction Therapy Training Institute in 2008, the Sex Therapy Training Institute in 2009, the International Transgender Certification Association in 2012, and the International Institute of Clinical Sexology in 2016. Dr. Marilyn K. Volker, Sexologist for the past thirty-two (32) years is a Diplomat of the American Board of Sexology and an Associate Fellow of The American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. She sits on the faculty of four South Florida universities— University of Miami, Florida International University, St. Thomas University, Barry University—as well as is Associate Professor at The Institute For Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, San Francisco, California, where she received her doctorate in 1991. Dr. Volker trains counselors to become sex therapists through the Florida Post-Graduate Sex Therapy Training Institute and The Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Sexology for Sex Therapists. She has served as sexuality consultant for a variety of addiction treatment facilities state and nationwide and has written articles addressing sexuality issues in recovery. Dr. Volker teaches in the sexuality programs for two medical schools— University of Miami and Ross University and is a doctoral committee member for Union Institute.
Dr. Volker helped to establish the Health Crisis Network, Florida's first community based AIDS project in 1982 by directing its education division. She received specialized training in HIV/AIDS from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and has educated thousands over the past 20 years about HIV/AIDS in schools, community and professional organizations, corporations state and nationwide. Dr. Volker helped to develop the HIV/AIDS curriculum and training programs for the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, for the National VA Hospitals, and for the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. Dr. Volker has been a consultant to community based AIDS projects throughout Florida, the nation, and the Caribbean islands. She has written articles about HIV/AIDS and was a peer journal reviewer for AIDS Education & Prevention. She is currently faculty for the state of Florida's HIV/AIDS trainings.
Dr. Volker helped to establish the Institute on Sexism and Sexuality in 1972 which addressed gender issues under Title IX in Miami-Dade County; co-chaired the first Women's History celebration in Miami-Dade County in 1983 and current President of the Women's History Coalition. Marilyn has starred in a variety of media addressing sexual health issues as well as hosting a daily live call-in radio show, SEX WITH MARILYN for two years. She sat on a number of boards addressing sexual health issues including the Mental Health Association, Educational Task Force of the Girl Scouts of South Florida, the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Addiction Treatment Professionals, and the Outreach Institute for Gender Studies. Dr. Volker helped to establish the first gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgendered youth group in Miami-Dade County in 1975.
Dr. Volker began her career teaching deaf children and continues to serve as sexuality consultant to a variety of special education programs, organizations, and community groups addressing body changes, diseases, and disabilities. Her doctoral video and facilitator's guide, SEXUALITY: A Process in Decision-Making, highlighted eight deaf students then in the Miami-Dade County public schools. Marilyn (former minister's daughter/former minister's wife) and her husband David have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. Dr. Volker was honored as one of six South Florida "Women of Impact" during Women's History Month, March, 2002.
Dr. Volker's passion in life is to invite all people from nursery school to nursing homes to learn information about their one and only body—honoring public and private parts— by always being SAFE—physically, emotionally, and sexually!

This course provides an in-depth exploration of students' biases, identities, boundaries, and limitations as aspiring sexologists working with the Kink/BDSM community. Participants will engage in reflective exercises to uncover their own biases and assumptions regarding BDSM practices and lifestyles. Additionally, participants will develop strategies for promoting inclusivity, cultural competency, and affirmative care practices within their chosen work. By fostering self-awareness and sensitivity, this course aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide competent and affirming care to individuals within the Kink/BDSM community.

Join Dr. David Williams as we explore together a wide variety of medications that affect sexual functioning. This elective will look at substances, both prescribed and not, that play a role in sexual functioning along with medication effects on hormone levels. We will then look at medications that can be used to enhance and aid in sexual functioning.

Dr. Williams started his training at Grove City College where he obtained a Bachelors in Music Education. He taught music for 6 years in a partial hospital setting. During that time, he obtained an Associates degree in Nursing from Community College of Allegheny County. After obtaining his Nursing license, he worked in an emergency department. While practicing emergency nursing, he obtained a Bachelors in Nursing from Waynesburg University, and then completed a Masters in Nursing Education from Chatham University. He has taught nursing part time for University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, and Community College of Allegheny County. Dr. Williams then went on to complete a second Masters in Nursing along with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Robert Morris University. He is dually licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. Currently, he is practicing at UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics and Pressley Ridge Family Counseling Center managing medical and psychiatric needs of children and adolescents. Dr. Williams is a graduate of the Sex Therapy Training Institute (STTI), Board Certified in Clinical Sexology, and is on the faculty of the International Institute of Clinical Sexology and STTI.
