This course will define the terms related to victims and victimology. Students will learn to recognize types of victims and issues specific to type. Content will include bias toward victims, victim-blaming, and issues between victims and the criminal justice system; it will also cover the process of restorative justice. Students will learn to utilize a variety of interventions appropriate to victim type.

Objectives

  • Define the terms related to victims and victimology.
  • Describe the role of a victimologist.
  • Recognize types of victims and issues specific to type.
  • Discuss bias towards victims and victim-blaming.
  • Recognize issues between victims and the criminal justice system.
  • Identify symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome.
  • Define and describe the process of restorative justice.
  • Utilize a variety of interventions appropriate to types of victims.
  • Describe a victim’s experience of a crime.
  • Describe a victim’s experience with family, friends, and law enforcement.
  • Compile a list of resources for victims.
