Sex is keyed into our limbic systems, which controls our survival, our emotions, our reward system, and our memories. Our limbic system is vulnerable to the effects of substance use/abuse, since mind-altering substances such as cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogens first affect the reward system and then stores the pleasurable effects in memory, which leads to cravings and addiction. The intersection of sexuality and substance use occurs when we use drugs while having sex, which exponentially intensifies the pleasure of both; when we use drugs to a point where our ability to engage in sexual behavior is impaired; or when we use drugs to escape memories of traumatic sexual experiences. This workshop will explore and explain the many points of this intersection and describe interventions for developing healthy sexual feelings and behavior in recovery from addiction.

The aging process often contributes to individuals acquiring disabilities over time that impact their sexual lives. In this workshop, we discuss the relationship between aging and disabilities, as well as an overview of adaptive strategies and tools to help older adults engage in satisfying sexual expression.
Learning objectives
- Explain how disability manifests itself in the aging process across different domains of functioning.
- Explain the difference between the medical and social model of disability with a focus on how each model relates to common issues in providing disability-informed sexuality education counseling and therapy.

She has worked in the medical field for over twenty-five years in different capacities that range from bedside nursing, leadership, and Case management. During her time as a counselor, she has worked in the field of Cognitive and Emotional Wellness with Trauma, Anxiety, Addictions, Relationship Issues, Women's Issues, Men's Issues, Parenting Problems and Difficulties, Divorce, and Sexuality. Currently, she is a Doctoral Candidate in Sexology at IICS.
Isabel Perez is a licensed school psychologist with a diplomate in school neuropsychology, licensed mental health counselor, master addiction professional and heart-centered hypnotherapist currently completing her PhD in Sex Therapy with a specialization in addiction. She has been serving Miami-Dade County since 1996 with a focus on concussion, traumatic brain injury, and neurological disorders.

In her work as a Surrogate Partner Therapist, she helps assist individuals and couples who desire to enhance their concept of their own sexuality as their bodies age and change.

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias present one of the most pressing public health emergencies today. This workshop explores the social and medical factors shaping the lives of people living with these conditions, as well as how to address the sexuality-related challenges arising from them. Ethics concerning consent will be explored fully.

The hope is that by the end of the 5 hour elective you will have an understanding of what a pelvic health physiotherapist does in practice and when to refer patients. Calista is a full time pelvic floor physiotherapist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy. While in physiotherapy school she obtained her Post-Graduate Certificate in Sexual Health and her Internal Pelvic Health Certification. Since graduating she has taken educational courses in sexual pain, pelvic health and pediatrics. She is acupuncture certified and has training in the practice of visceral manipulation.
Calista over the last year increased her education and knowledge base in the area of transgender health and how this relates to pelvic health and physiotherapy. Calista is passionate about pelvic health and sexual heath and educating others on the ways they intersect. She graduated with her PhD in Clinical Sexology through the International Institute of Clinical Sexology in 2022.

It will cover the basics of Ethical Decision Making and ethical questions related to specific areas, such as conversion therapy. Students will learn how therapists and psychologists come to violate the laws regarding sexual relationships with patients and be able to clearly differentiate between the therapist-patient relationship and the forensic arena and understand the boundaries of each. The course will also focus on forensic assessment and testifying in court.

Dr. Carol Clark graduated from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in 1990 with a Master's degree in Counseling. She moved to Miami and, after attaining her license, became a Certified Addictions Professional through the Florida Certification Board. She then attended the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists and the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, thereby earning a doctoral degree and the right to the title of Sex Therapist. She is a Board Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), the American Board of Sexology (ABS), and the Therapist Certification Association (TCA). She taught Human Sexuality, Group Counseling, and Substance Abuse Counseling for 18 years at Carlos Albizu University in Miami and opened her own institutes of Addictions Therapy, Sex Therapy, and Transgender Care before launching the International Institute of Clinical Sexology. She is the author of Addict America: The Lost Connection, a valuable resource for both clinicians and the general public, as it explores the overall addictive manner in which we live our lives and how that disconnects us from ourselves, our relationships, and our spiritual lives.

Dr. Janis Roszler is a board-certified sex therapist, licensed marriage and family therapist, certified clinical supervisor, licensed dietitian/nutritionist, and the 2008-2009 diabetes educator of the year (AADE). She received her master's degree in marriage and family therapy from UMass Boston. Her books include Intimacy & Diabetes, Sex and Diabetes, Approaches to Behavior, Diabetes on Your OWN Terms and The Secrets of Living and Loving with Diabetes. Her articles and medical chapters have been published in textbooks, magazines and peer reviewed journals. She is the former host of Janis’ Jump Start to Good Health and dLife radio shows and authored the popular Dear Janis advice column that was featured throughout the U.S., China and Dubai.

She then attended the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists and the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, thereby earning a doctoral degree and the right to the title of Sex Therapist. Dr. Williams started his training at Grove City College where he obtained a Bachelors in Music Education. He taught music for 6 years in a partial hospital setting. During that time, he obtained an Associates degree in Nursing from Community College of Allegheny County. After obtaining his Nursing license, he worked in an emergency department. While practicing emergency nursing, he obtained a Bachelors in Nursing from Waynesburg University, and then completed a Masters in Nursing Education from Chatham University. He has taught nursing part time for University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, and Community College of Allegheny County. Dr. Williams then went on to complete a second Masters in Nursing along with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Robert Morris University. He is dually licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. Currently, he is practicing at UPMC Children’s Community Pediatrics and Pressley Ridge Family Counseling Center managing medical and psychiatric needs of children and adolescents. Dr. Williams is a graduate of the Sex Therapy Training Institute (STTI), Board Certified in Clinical Sexology, and is on the faculty of the International Institute of Clinical Sexology and STTI.

Dr. Carol Clark graduated from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey) in 1990 with a Master's degree in Counseling. She moved to Miami and, after attaining her license, became a Certified Addictions Professional through the Florida Certification Board. She then attended the American Academy of Clinical Sexologists and the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, thereby earning a doctoral degree and the right to the title of Sex Therapist. She is a Board Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), the American Board of Sexology (ABS), and the Therapist Certification Association (TCA). She taught Human Sexuality, Group Counseling, and Substance Abuse Counseling for 18 years at Carlos Albizu University in Miami and opened her own institutes of Addictions Therapy, Sex Therapy, and Transgender Care before launching the International Institute of Clinical Sexology. She is the author of Addict America: The Lost Connection, a valuable resource for both clinicians and the general public, as it explores the overall addictive manner in which we live our lives and how that disconnects us from ourselves, our relationships, and our spiritual lives.

Dr. An Goldbauer provides consultation to programs’ working with commercially sexually exploited trafficked individuals and assists in developing training manuals to meet compliance within the scope of programs’ limitations, ensuring programs use inclusive language to address the LGBTQIA+ population and implement evidence-based measurements. Dr. Goldbauer also provides mentoring to youth when needed, mentoring to medical students presenting grand rounds in trans care, works with professionals within the commercially sexually exploited population, teaches a home study course at IICS, and a course at ITCA where he also serves on the Advisory Board. He provides direction, consultation, and collaborate on a committee working with medical/mental health and other professionals aiming to provide services to the LGBTQIA+ community.
He continues to advance further training beyond the doctoral degree by taking courses, attending symposiums, in services, webinars as these pertain to human trafficking and the LGBTQIA+ populations. These trainings range from seeking certifications to facilitate groups for At-Risk-Girls, offer effective case management in working with commercially sexually exploited individuals. I also attend conferences that address legal and investigative materials to enhance his knowledge about the different typologies of sex offenders for didactic purposes.

Chemsex, the use of methamphetamine, GHB/GBL and other drugs in combination with sexual behaviors, is a significant global problem, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM). It is one of the most significant factors affecting new HIV infections and poor antiretroviral medication adherence. Chemsex instills confidence and a sense of interpersonal connection, along with heightened sexual desire. It also is an effective way of numbing uncomfortable emotions such as shame, internalized homophobia or loneliness. The combined intensity of stimulants, sex, and porn hijack the brain’s reward circuitry, effectively resetting the baseline level needed for both sexual arousal and performance. When used to enhance sexual behavior, these drugs create a lasting fusion between the intoxicated state and sexual behaviors. Once fused, tolerance quickly develops resulting in escalating drug use, the need for more intense sexual encounters, and sexual dysfunction. If such fusion has occurred, abstinence from the drugs often results in a loss of sexual desire. This presentation illuminates the biological, cultural, and psychological impact of chemsex and provides interventions and approaches that help clinicians support the client in reclaiming healthy, drug-free sex and intimacy.

David Fawcett PhD, LCSW is a social worker and clinical sexologist who has worked in addictions and mental health for over three decades. Since 2000 he has specialized in treating fused drug use and sexual behavior (“chemsex”) and has become a leading authority on achieving both chemsex sobriety and integrating healthy sex and intimacy in recovery. He is the author of Lust, Men, and Meth: A Gay Man’s Guide to Sex and Recovery (Healing Path Press 2016) which explores the intersection of gay men, drug use, and high-risk sexual behavior. He is also Vice President for Clinical Programming at Seeking Integrity LLC where he, in collaboration with Dr. Rob Weiss, develops and operates treatment programs for sex and porn addiction and chemsex. Seeking Integrity currently operates a program in Los Angeles. David is highly-regarded trainer and is the producer of the podcast “Sex, Love, and Addiction: Healing Conversations for Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Men” In 2018, David co-produced the award-winning documentary Crystal City which follows the journeys of several men in recovery from chemsex in New York.

Michelle Holleman is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT), and Certified Multiple Addictions Therapist (CMAT) specializing in Gaming and Tech. A trauma expert trained in EMDR and experiential therapy, Michelle is also a PhD candidate in Clinical Sexology at the International Institute for Clinical Sexology (IICS), where she serves as Lead Instructor and Designer of the Kink Aware Therapy Certification Program.

Luigi is an HIV Long-Term Survivor (HLTS), living with HIV since 1980.
